A few days ago I told you all about a whole mess of new SWEENEY TODD pictures. And a little over a week ago, Ammon showed you all the new trailer and sweet ass TV spot. Well today we found another still from the movie floating around, with The Hollywood Reporter, doing what they do best, reporting that SWEENEY TODD is actually still being worked on.
First, you can check out the still above. I’m not positive if it’s brand new, but it’s the first I’ve seen of it. It’s kind of boring actually, but whatever.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting on some much more interesting stuff. First and foremost, SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET isn’t even finished yet, despite it being released in a little over a month! Tim Burton had the following to say in regards to how long until it would be ready: “Probably about two weeks, I hope.” Cutting (pun intended) it a bit close aren’t we? Personally I’m not worried about it. I’m digging everything I’ve seen about this flick, even the fact that it’s a musical.
Which was part of the other piece of news we heard from THR. They touched on how SWEENEY TODD is really reaching out to a huge fan base. Terry Press, who’s handling the marketing of SWEENEY for Dreamworks, had the following to say:
“This has many niche audiences that need to be dealt with, and they don’t really cross. There are ‘Sweeney Todd’ freaks, there’s a sophisticated theatergoer crowd, there are the Tim Burton fans, and there are the young girls who love Johnny Depp. It’s like threading many needles.”
Not to mention all of us genre fans. So basically they’re aiming for everyone but families and teen couples? That explains the lack of singing in most of the trailers. Regardless of all these hoops, SWEENEY TODD hits theaters December 21.
