Tolkien Blu-ray and Digital home release details announced

Just when you thought that the only Blu-ray you'd be picking up on August 6th was POKMEON: DETECTIVE PIKACHU, 20th Century Fox has announced that TOLKIEN will also arrive on that particular date to rule all department store shelves.

Here's the official synopsis for TOLKIEN:

From legendary halls of Oxford to the grim and bloody trenches of World War I, this enthralling biopic explores the early years of J.R.R Tolkien (Nicholas Hoult) and the relationships that defined the legendary author he would become. Chronicling his romance with Edith Brant (Lily Collins), as well as the various members of the Tea Club, Barrovian Society, Tolkien slowly grows from a shy and bookish young man into one of history’s most beloved writers – seasoned by life, and everything that comes with it.

Included in the Blu-ray and DVD releases of the film are a modest amount of special features:

  • Deleted Scenes with optional commentary by Director, Dome Karukoski
  • First Look
  • Gallery
  • Audio Commentary by Director, Dome Karukoski

Fans of the Lord of the Rings author can look forward to revisiting the life of J.R.R. Tolkien when the film debuts on Digital July 23rd and Blu-ray & DVD on August 6th.

While I've yet to experience the movie for myself, I have it on good authority that TOLKIEN invites audience members to experience the love, friendship, and adventure of the iconic stroyteller as played by X-Men and Mad Max: Fury Road alum Nicholas Hoult. In truth, Tolkien's journey toward becoming the legend his is today has always intrigued me, so here's hoping that director Dome Karukoski's biographical war drama does much to celebrate the scribe as well as his inspiring talents on the printed page.
