Tom Cruise is heading to the World Cup: Will the daredevil actor pull off a closing ceremony stunt?

After finally sharing a trailer for Alejandro Iñárritu’s Digger, Tom Cruise is reportedly heading to the pitch! FIFA said this afternoon that Tom Cruise, Laura Pausini, Nicole Scherzinger, Robbie Williams, and the internet sensation IShowSpeed will perform at this year’s World Cup closing ceremony. The finale for one of the most talked-about sporting events of the year will take place on Sunday, July 19, at the New York-New Jersey Stadium (commonly known as MetLife Stadium). While FIFA did not offer any details about the upcoming performances, word has it that Cruise will make a “special appearance” at the event. Additionally, Jennifer Hudson will perform the National Anthem at the event.

Will Tom Cruise perform a stunt at the World Cup’s closing ceremony? The daredevil actor is fond of making a big entrance at events, and he currently holds the Guinness World Record for performing the most parachute jumps while on fire by a single person. Cruise performed the stunt 16 times, securing his place in Guinness World Records in 2025.

The FIFA World Cup finale is heating up

This week hosts the World Cup semi-finals, with today’s match pitting France against Spain in Dallas for the first semi-final, while England and Argentina square off on Wednesday in Atlanta. For the moment, France is still the favorite to win the tournament, though, as with any sport, odds can change at a moment’s notice.

Tom Cruise strikes it rich with Digger

When he’s not making plans for his mysterious FIFA World Cup appearance, Tom Cruise is promoting the release of his upcoming comedy Digger. In the film by Alejandro Iñárritu, Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, a balding, overweight oil tycoon with a thick Southern drawl. As the new Digger trailer shows, Cruise’s unconventional character is responsible for an ecological catastrophe that pushes the world to the brink of environmental collapse and nuclear war. With time running out, Digger embarks on a globe-spanning mission to try and undo the damage he’s caused.

In addition to Cruise, Digger also stars Sandra Hüller (Project Hail Mary), Jesse Plemons (Bugonia), John Goodman (The Connors), Riz Ahmed (The Phoenician Scheme), Michael Stuhlbarg (After the Hunt), Sophie Wilde (Babygirl), Emma D’Arcy (House of the Dragon), Robert John Burke (Robocop 3), Burn Gorman (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice), and Pip Torrens (Preacher).

Digger looks outrageous, with Cruise looking almost unrecognizable as the eccentric oil baron. Between Digger hype and a secretive FIFA World Cup performance on the way, it sounds like Tom Cruise is ready to delight his fans on more than one occasion in the coming weeks.
