Now that Tom Cruise's TOP GUN sequel, TOP GUN: MAVERICK has entered it's post-production phase, it's officially time for the stunt-happy actor to set his sights on what lies ahead. With his role as Cage for director Doug Liman's LIVE DIE REPEAT sequel yet to be confirmed, it stands to reason that Cruise's next set of death-defying performances will be for Chris McQuarrie's MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 7 and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 8. Little is known about either film at this time, though it's been confirmed that Rebecca Ferguson will reprise her M:I role as Ilsa Faust for the sequel, and that AGENT CARTER actor Hayley Atwell is set to join the cast. That's not much to go on, really, but perhaps Cruise's recent meeting with the president of Ukraine will provide us with a clue as to where Ethan Hunt's next mission will take place?

Cruise recently met with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy to talk about possible locations for "a new film." The title of the film has not been revealed at this time, though again, there's a chance that MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 7 will have Cruise, as Ethan Hunt, leaping off of buildings located in the Eastern European country.

"Cruise told Zelenskiy that he was interested in Ukrainian locations for the filming of one of his new film projects," the Ukrainian president's press service said in a statement.

During their Monday night meeting in Kiev, Zelenskiy remarked about the territory's recently adopted tax-rebate system for film producers, a program designed to help court international projects to the country. These programs are particularly attractive to both filmmakers as well as a number of world leaders, seeing as the arrangement is mutually beneficial for both parties, both in terms of exposure as well as keeping production costs within budget.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has been making headlines as of late, after allegations that President Trump suggested a quid-pro-quo for the Ukranian leader's help in gaining information about his political opponent, Joe Biden. During his meeting, Cruise appeared un-phased by the political dealings, and chose to focus on the matter at hand – scouting a possible location for his new film.

With any luck, it won't be long until we learn of the exact nature of Cruise's visit to the Ukraine. After all, it's a beautiful country, and I have no doubt that Cruise and his Mission:Impossible compatriots would have a lot of fun reducing it to rubble for the camera. Those buildings aren't going to leap across themselves, you know?

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 7 is slated for a July 23, 2021 release, while MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 8 is expected to land on August 5, 2022.
