The previously announced BBC series TABOO will be getting the chance at a much wider audience thanks to a new deal that will have the series airing on FX here in the United States. The series is set to begin production in mid to late 2015 and will likely air sometime in 2016.
TABOO is an eight episode series that is being billed as the first season of a potentially recurring drama. The series comes from Hardy and his father, Chips Hardy, who conceived of the story. They are teaming with producer Ridley Scott and Hardy’s LOCKE director Steven Knight.
The project centers on James Keziah Delaney (Hardy), a rogue adventurer who returns from Africa with 14 ill-gotten diamonds to seek vengeance after the death of his father. Refusing to sell the family business to the East India Company, he sets out to build his own trade and shipping empire and finds himself playing a very dangerous game.
Tom Hardy has worked in British television long before he hit it big in Hollywood and most recently had a recurring role on the BBC series PEAKY BLINDERS which is now available on Netflix. The short episode order is typical for BBC and cable series but also affords Hardy the opportunity to work on the big screen as well.
Seeing Hardy in this kind of drama will hopefully open up even more opportunities for the actor who has been linked to everything from DC to Marvel movie roles and has diverse projects coming like the Russian spy film CHILD 44 and a long in development biopic on Elton John.
