Tom Hardy, Channing Tatum eyed for thriller from Zero Dark Thirty scribe

Not often, in this line of work, do I hear some casting news, followed by the name of the screenwriter, then finally read the directors name and then shout "YES!" in my head. I can honestly say I did that with this news Deadline got that Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum are currently being eyed to star in the film TRIPLE FRONTIER, a thriller “set in the notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil where the Iguazu and Parana rivers converge.” The script was penned by HURT LOCKER and ZERO DARK THIRTY scribe Mark Boal and will be directed by J.C. Chandor (A MOST VIOLENT YEAR, ALL IS LOST). What did I tell ya?

This is not the first time this movie has been talked about, though. Some time ago Kathryn Bigelow was set to helm the feature and Tom Hanks, Will Smith and Johnny Depp were all at one point approached to star. So, basically, news around this movie has never not been awesome.

Though nothing is set in stone around Hardy or Tatum, but this casting news looks to be a sign the studio is ready to get the ball rolling on this movie. Boal is a terrific writer, and THIRTY was my favorite film of 2012 (an tremendous year for film in general), and Chandor already has a slew of great work under his belt thanks to MARGIN CALL, LOST and YEAR. And, of course, Hardy and Tatum have been rocking it in recent years. The ingredients for this movie are top-notch, meaning the resulting gumbo should be a fantastic treat.
