Tom Holland thinks it might be time to move on from Spider-Man

As it stands now, Tom Holland has played Spider-Man on the big screen more than anyone. After first appearing in Captain America: Civil War, Holland went on to play the web-slinger in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: Far From Home. The upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home marks the end of the actor’s contract to play Spidey, and although he has previously said he’d be back in a heartbeat to make more movies, he seems to see his final moments as Spider-Man ahead of him.

While speaking with GQ, Tom Holland pondered whether it wasn’t time for him to hang up his Spider-Man suit.

Maybe it is time for me to move on. Maybe what’s best for Spider-Man is that they do a Miles Morales film. I have to take Peter Parker into account as well, because he is an important part of my life. If I’m playing Spider-Man after I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong.

Tom Holland is currently 25, which gives him a few more years to play Spider-Man if he so wishes, but he’s also right that audiences would probably love to see Miles Morales in live-action. Holland has previously said that he and the rest of the cast were treating Spider-Man: No Way Home as the end of a franchise. If they do return, it would be a “very different version.” Both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were in their early 30s when they reached the end of their time as Spider-Man, so the character does seem to have a shelf-life.

Would you like to see Tom Holland return as Spider-Man for more films or would you like to see him pass the torch to Miles Morales somewhere down the road? Spider-Man: No Way Home will hit theaters on December 17, 2021.
