Tommy Wirkola to direct home invasion film Intruders for Blumhouse

Here's a project that has only just been announced but is already in desperate need of a title change. Tommy Wirkola, director of the DEAD SNOW films and HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS (pictured above), has written and is set to direct a film called INTRUDERS for Blumhouse Productions.

There are already plenty of movies with the title INTRUDERS or a variation thereof, and they tend to be the same sort of movie this one is going to be: a home invasion thriller. This particular INTRUDERS will show us what happens when

a mother escapes her abusive husband and takes her young daughter toward refuge in a secluded home, only to be assailed by intruders hungry for the gold that’s supposedly buried in the house.

They have a fine set-up for a thriller in place, now they just need to call it something else.

Blumhouse is in talks to finance the film, which is being produced by Adam McKay and Kevin Messick for Gary Sanchez. Wirkola intends to have cameras rolling on INTRUDERS this summer.

Wirkola's most recent film was WHAT HAPPENED TO MONDAY?, a sci-fi thriller that was released through the Netflix streaming service last August.
