Toss a coin to Henry Cavill reading The Witcher in this new video

Incumbent Superman Henry Cavill made waves earlier this year when it was announced he'd play Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's The Witcher. While many fans panicked wondering how this would impact his involvement (or lack there of) in further Superman adventures, others were just thrilled that the English actor took on the role. The series released on December 20 with critics mixed on the show itself and its three storylines. JoBlo's own Alex Maidy was mildly entertained by the new fantasy epic even if the first season is somewhat disjointed.

Although The Witcher name is most commonly associates with the hit video game series, that's not technically the origin of the story. The show draws its inspiration from the popular series of novels by Polish author Andrzeji Sapkowski. The eight episode initial season is based largely on the short story collections The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny. While you can listen to the dulcet tones of Peter Kenny relay The Witcher stories on Audible, audiences also have another option – Henry Cavill.

In a move reminiscent of fireside chats and Masterpiece Theater, Netflix recently released a promotional video showing Geralt himself reading from Sapkowski's fantasy tome:

Ahhh now that's the stuff. While it may be morning in my current neck of the woods, Cavill's words just make me want to curl up on my couch in my Blaviken themed blanket and relax. In all honesty the setup here is amusing to say the least. I love the high-backed chair and the (presumably) whiskey on the side table. It adds an air of authenticity to the whole thing. I mean come on! Wouldn't you guys listen to Cavill recite classic fantasy works on a regular basis? And it doesn't have to stop there. He could do mysteries, romance novels, maybe even Senate bills. The possibilities are endless.

Those of you hoping for more Geralt adventures you're in luck as The Witcher has already been renewed for a second season. In the meantime you can follow the adventures of the Rivian warrior as the entire first season of The Witcher is currently streaming on Netflix.
