Arrow Video previously announced that they have started a new division that is dedicated to remastering cult classics. This new division is called Toy Robot Video and it looks like they’ll be maintaining the amazing output that their normal division has released. Their upcoming slate of titles includes Guyver 2: Dark Hero, Roaring Fire, Masters of the Universe, Marshmallow and Ninja Wars.
The previous announcement read, “The new label – a subsidiary of Arrow Video – aims to recreate the wondrous experience of browsing titles at the local video store, with fabulous new cover artwork, film masters transferred from the best elements available, colorfully-branded OBI-Strips, slip cards, art cards, and extras – and at allowance-friendly prices, so you’ll have bucks left over for snacks!”
Now, Toy Robot has unveiled the list of extras and specs for their titles.
The original 1987 adaptation comes to life like never before on home video with an UHD 4K upgrade and a never-before-seen preview cut of the movie that’s recently been unearthed by Toy Robot. The official description reads,
On September 15, the muscular action-adventure movie Masters of the Universe makes its global 4K UHD debut. The film is based on the bestselling ’80s toy line featuring He-Man. Along with the original theatrical cut, the Preview Cut of Masters of the Universe is included, featuring new and extended scenes plus alternate takes. The release also includes hours of special features and newly commissioned extras. A 2-Disc Blu-ray version will also be available.
The wicked Skeletor (Frank Langella, Dracula) captures Castle Grayskull with his dastardly troops. The only thing keeping him from controlling all of Eternia is a small resistance force consisting of He-Man (Dolph Lundgren, The Punisher), Man-At-Arms (Jon Cypher, The Food of the Gods), and Teela (Chelsea Field, The Last Boy Scout). They rescue Gwildor (Billy Barty, UHF) and gain control of the supremely powerful Cosmic Key, disrupting the ceremony Skeletor needs to achieve universal domination. The rebel group escapes to Earth, but the Cosmic Key ends up in the hands of teenagers Julie Winston (Courteney Cox, Scream) and Kevin (Robert Duncan McNeill, Star Trek: Voyager). Can He-Man fight off Skeletor’s vicious mercenaries, recover the key, and regain control of Castle Grayskull?
Another action cult classic that appears on Toy Robot’s slate is the sequel to the “East-Meets-West” film The Guyver. Guyver 2: Dark Hero continues the adventures of the stylistic alien martial arts fighter from action director Steve Wang. The official description reads,
On September 8, the intergalactic alien action sequel Guyver: Dark Hero makes its worldwide Blu-ray debut. The release includes the original 1994 version and an enhanced version featuring newly added special effects. The two-disc set also includes hours of special features and newly commissioned extras.
Sean Barker (David Hayter, screenwriter of X-Men) remains bonded with the alien Guyver suit as he continues his fight against the Zoanoids, a race of evil human mutants. While fighting crime around Los Angeles to appease the Guyver’s bloodlust, Sean sees a television news report about an archaeological dig featuring cave drawings of figures that have been appearing in his dreams. He travels to Utah to join the expedition, where archaeologists uncover the reason the Guyver came to Earth. The Zoanoids are also after the secrets hidden inside the cave.
