Trailer and clips preview gothic horror drama The Little Stranger

It's not getting a whole lot of attention, but there is a gothic horror film coming to theatres this weekend – one directed by Lenny Abrahamson, Oscar-nominated director of ROOM, and based on a novel by Sarah Waters that Stephen King called a "terrifying, engrossing ghost story".

The film is called THE LITTLE STRANGER. Lucinda Coxon wrote the screenplay adaptation to bring the following story to the screen:

During the long, hot summer of 1948, Dr. Faraday travels to Hundreds Hall, home to the Ayres family for more than two centuries. The Hall is now in decline, and its inhabitants — mother, son, and daughter — remain haunted by something more ominous than a dying way of life. When Faraday takes on a new patient there, he has no idea how closely the family's story is about to become entwined with his own.

Domhnall Gleeson stars as Faraday, with Charlotte Rampling, Will Poulter, and Ruth Wilson as the Ayres family.

The video embedded below features the film's trailer, along with a trio of clips that offer a preview of the film's characters, drama, and creepiness. Give it a look, and if THE LITTLE STRANGER seems interesting to you watch for its U.S. release this Friday, August 31st.

The film is also reaching screens in Hungary, Portugal, and the Czech Republic this weekend, with releases in other territories to follow throughout September and into October. For example, the U.K. release date is September 21st.
