I was quite surprised to see a trailer for THE SHALLOWS surface online today, since the movie only just went into production back in November, but given the fact that home studio Sony was aiming to have it in theatres on June 24th of this year, it makes sense that things are moving quickly on this one.
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (HOUSE OF WAX, ORPHAN) from a screenplay by Tony Jaswinski, THE SHALLOWS – which was originally titled IN THE DEEP – stars Blake Lively as
a young woman who is dealing with the recent death of her mother. While surfing on an isolated beach, she gets stranded 20 yards off shore on a buoy. What lies between her and the shore is a huge great white shark.
The trailer, which can be viewed below, doesn't mention that June 24th date, so maybe we can expect the release to be pushed back a bit, but it is so effective at driving home the isolation, desperation, and terror of the situation that it has me wanting to see the movie as soon as possible.
