Trailer for The Car

Here at AITH we love us some indie flicks that have that certain ‘Umph.’ You know what I mean? We like to watch out for the little guy in hopes that there might just be something awesome around the corner. So it’s with that mentality that I bring you Sean McConville’s THE CAR.

I’m willing to bet you’ve never heard of THE CAR right? Well the project already has an official website, a trailer and a detailed synopsis! Damn this one is moving fast! Well first thing’s first, the official website can be found right over HERE. Unfortunately not much can be found over there, just the trailer and synopsis. I’ve gone ahead and thrown said trailer up over in our videos section so you can just scroll down to check it out. Now I’m about to hit you with the very lengthly synopsis, if you’d like to skip that here’s the simple rundown: A young girl murdered in a Car, seeks to avenge her death from beyond the grave. And here’s the novel version:

Still traumatized by the death of his father, and recently released from a psychiatric ward, young mechanic, Ryan Davies, is encouraged by his concerned mother and caring therapist to renovate a classic car, as part of his rehabilitation back into society. Reluctant at first, but then inexplicably drawn to an old PONTIAC GTO LE MANS, Ryan decides to buy the car and restore it in his mother’s garage, the same place where he spent many years restoring classic cars with his father.

Soon after Ryan begins restoring the Pontiac he experiences strange visions and has startling nightmares, and is frequently awoken from sleep by the sudden blasts of the car radio, as if seeking his attention. He also sees disturbing flashes of a beautiful but bloodied young woman in the rear view mirror. Blaming these unnerving happenings and hallucinations on his medication, Ryan discards his pills and throws himself fully into the restoration of the Pontiac, frequently working through the night without sleeping or eating.

Despite not taking his medication, the hallucinations and visions continue, and in fact get worse, so Ryan decides to investigate the history of the car so he can discover the truth. When he finally tracks down the previous owner, homicide detective Joe Flanagan, Ryan learns that the detective’s beautiful young daughter, Abby, was abducted by four men in the car and has been missing ever since. Detective Flanagan denies Ryan’s claim that Abby’s spirit may be trapped in the car as ridiculous and scares Ryan away.

Believing in his own theory, Ryan starts to talk to Abby in the car and is both shocked and pleased when she appears in the rear view mirror as the beautiful young woman she once was. Ryan quickly becomes infatuated by her charms and after some time agrees to her request that he should track down and kill the men that were responsible for her abduction and murder, so that she can be freed from the claustrophobic car that is her prison.

Following Abby’s directions, Ryan begins to brutally murder the assailants. The story comes to a climax as Ryan drives the car fast through dark country lanes towards the scene of the crime to learn the truth behind what really happened that night, ending in a shocking and unexpected twist.

…Even then, is it all over…?

Well that’s a pretty detailed explanation, no? Seems like we get the step-by-step description of exactly what goes on in the movie. Hopefully there’s some of the film that was left to the element of surprise. According to IMDB, THE CAR already has a release date of December 10, 2011. Damn that’s a long ways away… Now unfortunately this is all we’ve got for THE CAR.
