Trailer: HBO horror anthology series Folklore premieres next month

Last Updated on July 21, 2021

Like every other horror fan out there, I love a good horror anthology. Be it a movie like George A. Romero and Stephen King's CREEPSHOW, BODY BAGS, DEAD OF NIGHT, TALES FROM THE HOOD, TRILOGY OF TERROR, AFTER MIDNIGHT, or horror TV series such as TALES FROM THE CRYPT, TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE, MASTERS OF HORROR or NIGHT GALLERY, I'm always down for a solid horror anthology.

And today we have word via EW that a new horror anthology show called FOLKLORE is heading to HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and partners’ streaming platforms next month. Each episode is based on a respective country’s myths and folklore, featuring supernatural beings and occult beliefs. Overseen by different directors, each story was also filmed in the local language of the country. The first season is comprised of six one-hour-long episodes that take place across six Asian countries — Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.

Episodes include the Indonesia-set “A Mother’s Love” about:

A single mother and her young son who discovers a group of dirty and underfed children living in a mansion’s attic

And a tale from Malaysia called “Toyol” in which:

A Member of Parliament turns to a mysterious woman who possesses shamanistic powers in order to salvage his town’s dire economic situation.

You can check out the trailer for the upcoming horror anthology series below, and the banner poster above. After that let us know if you plan to check out this new series when it hits next month, and what you're favorite horror anthology movies and TV shows are as well! And then remember to mark your calendars as HBO's FOLKLORE will be landing on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and partners’ streaming platforms on February 1st.
