This is the first I’m hearing of this flick DEATH OF THE VIRGIN, but I’m glad I’m aware of it now because it looks pretty sweet. An Italian shocker with plenty of demonic goings-on and atmosphere – and based on a Caravaggio painting to boot.
From director Joseph Tito, DEATH OF THE VIRGIN breaks down like this:
Taking place in the town of Caravaggio, the movie is inspired by the apparition of the Virgin Mary in 1432 and the gruesome yet extraordinary paintings of the artist, Michelangelo Merisi who became known as Caravaggio.
May, a young Canadian woman with a horrifying past, travels to the small highly religious town to take her vows into nun hood. There she begins to be plagued by disturbing dreams which become premonitions of real life murders that seem to be related to the paintings of Caravaggio. In an escalation of terror and madness, where dreams become reality, she discovers an obscure secret that digs deep into her past unraveling a shocking destiny.
According to Fangoria, the film has been acquired by Indican Pictures; a release date is pending.
The cast includes Maria Grazia Cucinotta, Natasha Allan, Silvio Oddi and Linda Valadas. We’ll keep you up to date on any news regarding this naughty VIRGIN; for now, enjoy the trailer below.
