I try to avoid exploitative horror flicks like I avoid rape, thus I paid only the most marginal of attention to the HOSTEL films and his ranting about how the internet killed HOSTEL 2 has hardly pushed him into my good books. But he has my full support for his planned film, TRAILER TRASH. If you remember, he started talking about it after he finished his work on GRINDHOUSE, an idea to make a film comprised solely of faux-trailers. Now it seems like the project is going full steam ahead because we suddenly have a release date! Roth spoke to Bloody-Disgusting; …that’s the date (August 22, 2008)! TRAILER TRASH was inspired by the two days we filmed “Thanksgiving,” which was the most fun I’ve ever had filming anything… Trailer Trash is not a horror film, it’s a comedy. It will be very R-rated and completely insane…” And then, Roth lets us know that he’s aiming fairly (impossibly) high with this film, moving from mindless ‘horror porn’, to… “I want to make a film like “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” which I consider to be the greatest achievement in the history of cinema. The best part is I get to shoot some new THANKSGIVING scenes, as well as other holiday slasher films I’ve always dreamed of making but never would because they’d completely ruin me.
