Some sad news today, my friends, regarding the passing of another LEGEND within our horror community. This past Thursday, Mr. Forrest J. Ackerman (known affectionately as “Forry”, above) succumbed to a heart attack at the mighty age of 92. For those of you who haven’t heard of this man, I suggest you give him a google because he truly led an interesting, extremely genre-friend life.
Ever hear of Famous Monsters of Filmland Magazine? Well, Mr. Ackerman created it! Yeah, that’s right. The monumental horror and sci-fi magazine from years ago that is still out there today, stemmed from the mind of this celebrated genre pioneer.
The Ackermonster (as he was also known) was a huge collector of all things sci-fi/horror as well. He helped found the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society, a large regional organization assembled for the fans. See, that’s the kind of man Mr. Ackerman was. A huge figure in the industry who cared about the fans (namely us). Hence, I feel that it is only fair that we celebrate his life’s accomplishments and keep his memory going strong.
