One of Bill Murray's most iconic comedies is apparently ripe to be adapated for television, as CBS is in the process of developing a single-camera comedy series based upon the film. There's no way this goes horribly wrong. Right?
The potential TV reboot will be written by Trevor Moore, Sam Brown, and Zach Cregger, who are best known for their work in sketch comedy troupe The Whitest Kids U’Know. Much like the 1981 film, the series will follow a "perennial rebellious outsider who ultimately finds his purpose in life when he joins the U.S. military and must unite a group of ragtag eccentrics." In addition to Murray, STRIPES starred Harold Ramis, Sean Young, John Candy, John Larroquette, P.J. Soles, and a host of other funny folks. A tough group to live up to, but the TV series will have at least one connection to the 1981 movie; Ivan Reitman, who directed the original, is also set to direct the reboot.
