UE Basic Instinct DVD

With the sequel coming in March, Lionsgate figured that hey, might as well pull the original’s DVD out and repackage it to make a quick buck.

While this isn’t exactly a quick buck (okay, it is), Lionsgate has managed to do some refining for the DVD, which comes out March 14th. The extras this time around appear to be the same as the original SE released by Artisan a few years back (save for the clear ice blue case and Icepick Pen), this time around Lionsgate has given us a new DVD Introduction by Sharon Stone and an
interview with Sharon Stone
, but other than that, it appears to be the same disk, except for the omission of the above goodies and a booklet. No word on the Easter Eggs from the previous disk (which included rehearsal footage of the Interrogation and Lie Detector scenes, among others), so depending on if the transfer is cleaned up, it looks to be another double dip, folks. The R2 releases are still the way to go for the inclusion of DTS tracks, if you’re really hardcore.

For those unfamiliar, here’s what’s on the DVD:

  • previously released unrated cut in anamorphic widescreen
  • English Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 Surround tracks
  • audio commentary with Director Paul Verhoeven and Director of Photography Jan de Bont
  • A Conversation with Sharon Stone
  • DVD Introduction by Sharon Stone
  • Screen Tests
  • Blonde Poison: the Making of BASIC INSTINCT featurette
  • Cleaning Up BASIC INSTINCT Montage
  • Storyboard Comparisons
  • trailers

The disk will set you back about $19.98, so if you missed out the first time, here’s your chance. The official artwork for the release is above.
