The last news item we had on Sony’s adaptation of the video game UNCHARTED was back in June when they set a release date of June 10, 2016. Seth Gordon (HORRIBLE BOSSES) was to start filming in early 2015; that’s likely a best case scenario at this point as it looks like the script for the film isn’t ready. Oscar-winning screenwriter Mark Boal (THE HURT LOCKER) is now working on the screenplay after a few other hands took a turn including Thomas Dean Donnelly, Joshua Oppenheimer (SAHARA), David Guggenheim (STOLEN), and Cormac & Marianne Wibberley (G-FORCE).

One might expect Boal to some needed weight to the project having also written ZERO DARK THIRTY; THR reports it also turns out he’s a big fan of the game series. Hopefully that will take care of that very important part of the filmmaking process, now they just need a leading star. Mark Wahlberg was attached to the project at one point but has since moved on, now Chris Pratt is the most recent person to pass on it as well.

While I think Pratt would be a fine choice, for fans of the games it’s not hard to see the similarities between Nathan Drake and Peter Quill; he may have avoided being typecast into that type of role. So here we are again, who should play Nathan Drake? How about Bradley Cooper?
