Uncharted writers hired

Another video game is getting the movie treatment. Hooray. This time it’s UNCHARTED: DRAKE’S FORTUNE, a title I’ve never heard of. No surprise there though, because I’m not a gamer. Apparently, it’s a big seller for Sony, having already spawned a sequel called AMONG THIEVES.

According to Latino Review, the film’s screenplay is now in the hands of scribes Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, the writers behind SAHARA and A SOUND OF THUNDER. They’ve also been scribbling the new CONAN feature for Nu Image. Hey, god bless anybody who can make it out of A SOUND OF THUNDER alive, is what I always say…

Here’s the deal with UNCHARTED: “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune” follows fortune hunter Nathan Drake, who is a descendant of explorer Sir Francis Drake. Believing he has learned the whereabouts of El Dorado, the fabled South American golden city, from a cursed golden statue, he embarks on a journey to find it. The search becomes competitive and dangerous when a rival hunter joins the fray and mutated creatures begin attacking those hoping to learn the treasure’s true secrets.

I can dig on an old-school adventure like this (especially with mutated creatures in the mix) – just as long as it’s more the first MUMMY and less, well, the other two MUMMY flicks… No director or cast has yet been announced, so stay tuned for more.
