Under Siege reboot in development at Warner Bros. for HBO Max

Under Siege is widely regarded to be one of Steven Seagal’s best movies, but as the actor has been stuck in direct-to-video limbo for quite some time, perhaps it’s time to revisit prior glories. Deadline has reported that Warner Bros. is developing an Under Siege reboot for HBO Max.

The Under Siege reboot is set to be directed by Timo Tjahjanto (The Night Comes for Us) with Umair Aleem (Kate) set to pen the script. Deadline says that Tjahjanto and Aleem developed the pitch for the reboot together. The original 1992 film starred Steve Seagal as Casey Ryback, a former Navy Seal who now serves as a cook on the U.S.S. Missouri, a battleship that’s set to be decommissioned. When terrorists arrive to take control, Ryback is the only person who can stop them. The film also starred Tommy Lee Jones, Gary Busey, and Erika Eleniak, and also spawned a sequel, Under Siege 2: Dark Territory. There’s no word on whether or not Steven Seagal will reprise his role of Casey Ryback for the Under Siege reboot, but personally, I wouldn’t bet on it.

In addition to The Night Comes for Us, Timo Tjahjanto is also known for directing segments of The ABC’s of Death, V/H/S/2, and V/H/S/94, as well as May the Devil Take You. He has also signed on to direct Last Train to New York for New Line, the upcoming remake of Train to Busan. Umair Aleem is best known for scripting Kate, an action thriller for Netflix that starred Mary Elizabeth Winstead as an assassin who has 24 hours to get vengeance on her poisoner before she dies.
