Last week I complained like a lil baby about the unadvanced state of Ridley Scott’s ALIEN prequels, bitching and moaning about how we have heard a lot of chatter, but not seen a lot of action. Perhaps all involved read my nagging post and decided to do something about it, as it appears that casting – or at the very least, a preliminary casting conversation – is in full effect.
In an interview with the British Sunday Times (as caught by The Playlist), Alice Creed herself Gemma Arterton talked about what her future holds, and evidently dropped the following bombshell: Ridley Scott has her in mind for his new ALIEN flick(s).
In her own words: “Ridley Scott saw ‘Alice Creed’ and loved it. He wants me to meet for Aliens: The Remake, or something.”
Okay, so obviously she’s not a sci-fi geek, and “Aliens: The Remake or something” won’t necessarily endear her to the more hardcore fans of the flicks. But let’s give the lass a shot…
Arterton is at a point in her career where she’s obviously doing most of the big Hollywood stuff that comes her way (CLASH OF THE TITANS, QUANTOM OF SOLACE, PRINCE OF PERSIA) while still fitting in personal projects and intriguing indies (DISAPPEARNACE OF ALICE CREED, the upcoming TAMERA DREWE). It’s a nice place to be for an actress… But is she the right fit for an ALIEN movie? She is good in ALICE CREED, so she shouldn’t be written off as being just another cute flavor-of-the-month. Besides, we don’t know if Scott likes her for the “Ripley” role (you just know there will be one) or something else. Maybe she’ll play a corporate scumbag?
Food for thought…
UPDATE: MTV reached out to Arterton’s publicist about the story and got the response ” “There’s no truth to that.” So I guess Arterton was lying in her interview..?
