Updates on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 and the Friday the 13th reboot

We have brief update to share with you today surrounding the next installments in two franchises, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES and FRIDAY THE 13TH. While both films have their respective hardcore fans bases, I think it's fair to say that neither franchise has delivered a solid movie in a very long time. With TMNT, last year’s reboot was a critical failure but nonetheless it became a commercial success solidifying a sequel that will get underway very soon. The same could be said about the Jason reboot we got in 2009, it wasn’t well received but brought in enough box office to leave the franchise with a pulse.

So far we've heard that the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES sequel is due in theaters on June 3, 2016 and FRIDAY THE 13TH is scheduled for a November 13, 2015 release. The producers over at Platinum Dunes, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, had a few words to say about the status on each title when they spoke to Collider:

Here’s what Form had to say when they talked about the announcement that Bebop and Rocksteady would be in the TMNT sequel:

We designed and we did lots of work on all of them and then only so many fit in the box and luckily we have another chance to make another one of these movies and some of those characters that got cut out of the first one can make it into the second one.

Form also revealed that TMNT 2 will start filming soon:

“We’re in prep right now. We start shooting in New York in April.”

I'll admit that I went into their TMNT reboot with genuine optimism; what I found out of course is that it was geared towards very young children. So taking that and it's numerous plot holes and poor action sequences into consideration, I don't have much hope that I'll be excited for the sequel.

When it comes to their other rebooted franchise, Form had this to say when asked for a status update on FRIDAY THE 13TH:

Just working on the script still. Hoping to make that movie this year and Brad, I’m gonna confirm that Jason is in the movie.

Well I’m glad he put that silly rumor to rest, of course Jason is going to be in the movie! What his statement also probably means is that we won’t actually see the movie this year seeing how it’s still being written. I’ll throw out May 13, 2016 as a goal to their marketing people for free. It's true, I looked it up. Now that's vigorous research!

Are you excited for either the TMNT sequel or another Jason reboot?
