Urban battles Priest

Last week I hit you all with the news that the sexy Maggie Q had signed on to play the female lead in Scott Stewart’s PRIEST. She rounds out our heroic trio of Paul Bettany as the titular character and Cam Gigandet as a sheriff who joins him. Well we’ve got our star… we’ve got our hottie… we even have the sidekick… now who’s going to step up and play the baddie?

The Hollywood Reporter are passing along the good word today that Karl Urban has signed on to go up against Bettany, Gigandet, and Q (below). Looks like Urban’s going to have his hands full. The actor (above) will play Black Hat, the evil leader of the bloodsuckers who was once a priest and hunter but now fancies himself a god of vampires. That actually sounds pretty awesome!

PRIEST takes place in a world ravaged by war between man and vampires. A warrior priest-turned-vampire fighter teams with a sheriff and a warrior priestess to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece. I don’t know about you guys but I can definitely see myself enjoying a flick like that with the cast this one has. PRIEST is based on the TokyoPop comic and is set to hit theaters everywhere next year on August 13, 2010!
