20th Century Studios’ Vacation Friends debuted on Hulu last week and quickly became the most-watched original film in its opening weekend for the streaming service. The studio is clearly ready for another helping as Deadline has reported that Clay Tarver will return to write and direct a Vacation Friends sequel that will also reunite the main cast.

The Vacation Friends sequel will be titled Honeymoon Friends and if you’ve seen the first film, you probably have a rough idea of where the sequel will go. Vacation Friends followed a straight-laced couple (Lil Rel Howery, Yvonne Orji) who befriend a pair of wild, thrill-seekers (John Cena, Meredith Hagner) while on vacation but wind up being horrified when the pair later turn up to their wedding uninvited. Our own Matt Rooney recently reviewed Vacation Friends, but it’s probably safe to say that he wasn’t a big fan. Rooney described Vacation Friends as the type of “comedy where its three solid laughs are widely spaced out between modest chuckles that you’ll probably only give out of pity.

The official synopsis for Vacation Friends:

In this raw and raunchy comedy, straight-laced Marcus and Emily (Howery, Orji) are befriended by wild, thrill-seeking partiers Ron and Kyla (Cena, Hagner) at a resort in Mexico. Living in the moment, the usually level-headed couple lets loose to enjoy a week of uninhibited fun and debauchery with their new “vacation friends.” Months after their walk on the wild side, Marcus and Emily are horrified when Ron and Kyla show up uninvited at their wedding, creating chaos and proving that what happens on vacation, doesn’t necessarily stay on vacation.

Vacation Friends is now streaming on Hulu and on Star on Disney+ internationally, so be sure to check out the rest of Rooney’s review.
