Valiant comic-book covers reveal first look at live-action designs

As has been reported before, Valiant comics are getting into the cinematic universe game, however it seems that maybe they have set their goals a bit more modestly. Now it will be a video series, called NINJAK VS. THE VALIANT UNIVERSE. It will be about:

"Colin King in his role as Ninjak, MI-6’s most dangerous intelligence operative and weapons expert. When the assassin Roku exploits King’s  greatest weakness, Ninjak is forced to betray those friends and allies closest to him and become a fugitive on the run…putting him into direct confrontation with some of the best (and vilest) that the Valiant Universe has to offer."

Comicbook.com got some exclusive comic-book covers that showed off how the various Valiant covers will be rendered in live-action. Here's a cover showing off the heroes Bloodshot (played by the Green Power Ranger himself, Jason David Frank), alongside Arrow and X-O Manowar:

And here some more with other Valiant heroes, including Livewire:

Honestly, these, uh…they don't look great. I mean, it's cool that the Green Ranger is getting some movie roles (besides a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo in POWER RANGERS), but other than that the costumes look like something out of a low-budget superhero show in the mid-90s that repurposed paintball and laser tag equipment, while being shot in warehouses around Vancouver (which wouldn't surprise me if this is where the film was shot). Now, don't get me wrong: I'm not saying it's for sure going to be bad. I love being surprised. I'm just, you know, not getting my hopes up.

Anyway, here's what Dinesh Shamdasani, CEO and CCO at Valiant Entertainment, told ComicBook.com during a visit to the set of NINJAK VS. THE VALIANT UNIVERSE:

Valiant is very different. It's character-centered. It's grounded. It's subversive. It's left of center. It's quirky…We wanted to include the characters that showcased to a new audience how different and exciting Valiant is and why it's something equal to Marvel and DC and so these are the characters, our biggest characters and our most exciting characters to showcase the Valiant tonality.

So what do you Schmoes think? You down for a Valiant cinematic universe? If so, who are you most excited to see in live-action? Sound off below!

Meanwhile, the series should be released sometime later this year.
