Who knows if there’s any legitimacy to this story at all, so take it with a grain of salt. Gossip site ShowbizSpy is reporting that Vanessa Hudgens has turned down a role in a theoretical BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER movie, in which she’d co-star alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar. The reason for turning it down? TWILIGHT… TWILIGHT ruins everything.
Says a supposed inside source: “She felt that with Twlight still so massive Buffy would not be the best option right now… The idea was to have Sarah back but with Vanessa as a fresh, new character. The project has been shelved for now.”
First of all: Huh? They want (or wanted) to make another BUFFY movie? C’mon now. Let the gal die in peace, the show ended over seven years ago. I know some of the Whedonites out there can’t handle it when one of their master’s creation goes off into that good night, but we’ve got to let this one die, folks. (Although she does still exist in comic book form.)
Whedon has also got to be massively busy with THE AVENGERS, so I find it hard to believe that he’d have the time to wrestle with more Buffy stuff. If it is true, however, then maybe Ms. Hudgens has a point. The kids today like their vampires brooding and dull; they might not dig on Whedon’s hip, self-referential way of doing things. Kind of sad to think about, but BUFFY may already be dated…
Besides, a few years from now, they’re just going to reboot it anyway.
