Comic Con has come and gone and we were treated to loads of awesome things! From trailers to clips to announcements… Comic Con was jam packed with movie news! But what about the comics? Afterall Comic Con is supposed to be about those wonderful colored picture books right? Well today’s news has a couple of those upcoming comics… becoming upcoming movies!
Variety are reporting that Vanguard Films snagged up two new graphic novel properties while at Comic Con thanks to Vanguard topper John H. Williams. Those comics are THE OZ WARS and CIRCUS GALACTICUS. Both are described as fitting into ‘a clearly defined sci-fi genre PG-13 audience.’ Alright… that doesn’t sound too appealing but listen to these plots.
THE OZ WARS an action film set in the Emerald City, where a fierce war is waged by the Witches in their evil citadel against the resistance fighters led by the beleaguered Wizard. The idea for the comic came from an established screenwriter going under the pseudonym “Dorothy Gale.”
CIRCUS GALACTICUS is a futuristic story that revolves around a fantastical circus with mythic creatures, fantasy aerialists and heroic guerrilla fighters. They navigate the dark realm ruled by despotic tyrants who’ve taken control of Earth and have designated the circus as the only permissible form of entertainment. This one comes from writer Michael Walker.
Williams and Vanguard’s Rob Moreland will serve as producers for both films. Williams adds: “Both have huge spectacle…. and powerful themes of liberation and independence. They’ll make great graphic novels and have film franchise potential as well.” That’s all we’ve got so far but we’ll be keeping an eye out for these two properties. Hopefully they’ll turn out to be as twisted as they sound!
