Venom 2 post-credit scene explained by Andy Serkis

MAJOR SPOILERS for Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Consider yourself warned. Venom 2 is now playing in theaters, and as expected, the sequel does include a post-credit scene. While speaking with THR recently, Andy Serkis discussed the Venom 2 post-credit scene, but don’t worry, you’ll have to scroll down for the spoilery bits.

The Venom 2 post-credit scene finds Venom revealing to Eddie that he has vast amounts of knowledge he’s never shared, including information about multiple universes. He asks if Eddie would like a small taste of what he knows, which leads to the room shaking and a bright light. The seedy room they were in transforms into something much nicer, and here’s where it gets weird; playing on the tv is a report from J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons) naming Peter Parker as Spider-Man, which seems to officialy bring Venom into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Andy Serkis said that Spider-Man’s involvement was up in the air until the very last moment.

[The mid-credits scene was] 100 percent in flux, yeah. It couldn’t have been more in flux-y if you tried. Yeah, of course, it was something that they talked about from before I even came on to the movie. There were moments where he [Spider-Man] was going to be in the story, potentially, and then he wasn’t. But no, we decided that we wanted to really examine the Venom-verse first. So as we were going through principal photography, the inevitable discussions had to be had, but it wasn’t until very, very late on that we reached the precise notion of the teaser that we wanted to lay in there.

It will be interesting to see where this development leads, but fans have wanted Spidey and Venom to cross paths for quite some time… and no, Spider-Man 3 doesn’t count. Venom: Let There Be Carnage is now playing in theaters, so be sure to check out a review from our own Chris Bumbray and let us know what you thought of the film as well.
