Henry Cavill has played Superman a few times and really proved he has what it takes to be a badass action star in both the Netflix series The Witcher and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT. Now a video released by Netflix to promote The Witcher also shows that he could, if he wanted to, have a hell of a career in the field of audiobooks.
The Witcher is inspired by a series of novels written by Andrzej Sapkowski, and in the clip embedded below Cavill reads aloud a violent introduction to his character Geralt of Rivia from the author's short story collection The Last Wish. Since I haven't read the Sapkowski novels, the Netflix show was my introduction to the world of The Witcher, so it's interesting to hear how Geralt is written in the source material, and how Sapkowski handled moments of action. And it's also captivating simply because Cavill has an incredible voice for this sort of thing.
The eight episode first season of Netflix's The Witcher tells the following story:
On a Continent riddled with evil, the paths of a monster hunter, a sorceress and a runaway princess converge.
Cavill is joined in the cast by Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan as the sorceress and runaway princess. Also in the cast are Jodhi May, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, Adam Levy, MyAnna Buring, Mimi Ndiweni, Therica Wilson-Read, Emma Appleton, Eamon Farren, Joey Batey, Lars Mikkelsen, Royce Pierreson, Maciej Musia?, Wilson Radjou-Pujalte, and Anna Shaffer.
I gave the first season of The Witcher an 8/10 review, so of course I recommend checking it out as soon as possible.
