Videodrome remake

One of the craziest scenes David Cronenberg ever filmed is James Woods stomach eating videotapes, almost like his stomach turned into a giant vagina in which he fed it all sorts of weird shit. That image is still burned in my mind, and I can’t say it’s a pleasant one.

That image must also be burned in Universal Pictures’ mind as well, as according to Variety, Cronenberg’s techno-punk classic VIDEODROME is now up on the remake chopping block.

VIDEODROME is one bizarre movie that really wasn’t geared for the masses, so when Universal says their plan is to modernize the concept, infuse it with the possibilities of nano-technology and blow it up into a large-scale sci-fi action thriller, it makes me think this will be more of a raping of the idea and not a true remake at all!

The original starred Woods and Blondie (Deborah Harry), and was about Woods’s character as the head of Civic TV Channel 83, who makes his station relevant by programming “Videodrome,” a series that depicts torture and murder that transfixes viewers.

It was also about that giant vagina in his stomach. Ehren Kruger (THE RING TWO, TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN) is all set to write the script,. No director is attached.

What say ye? Should there be a VIDEODROME remake? Who’d play Woods’ character? Or how about Blondie’s? Considering this past weekend, the flick may star Beyonce in the same role (hey, they’re both singers, right?). Stick around for more on the VIDEODROME remake as we hear it!

Blondie was a hottie!
