Blair Underwood's next film project, a psychological thriller called Viral, has just added four-time Emmy winner and Oscar nominee Alfre Woodard to its cast.
This is the duo's first project together after teaming for the Netflix drama Juanita, Showtime’s The Wishing Tree, and the stage show Love Letters. When they're not lighting up the silver screen, Woodard and Underwood serve as the co-founders of Artists for a New South Africa (ANSA), an organization to support the mission to end apartheid. The group also includes Hollywood royalty Danny Glover, Mary Steenburgen, and C.C.H. Pounder.
Upon joining the cast of Viral, Woodard is set to play Dr. Johnetta, a psychiatrist specializing in deep trauma. The film centers on Underwood’s character Andrew as he falls into paranoia after his missing wife, Jules (Jeanine Mason). As Andrew climbs out of the rabbit hole of his own mind, he finds comfort in his new girlfriend, Emilia (Sarah Silverman).
Underwood is directing from a script written by Joe McClean. Additional cast members include Clint James, Brendan Burke, Erik Jensen, Samuel Garnett, Jo Twiss, and Connor Paolo. Underwood is producing alongside McClean, Daniel Cypress, and York Films’ John Kalafatis, Joanna Kalafatis, and Andreas Ignatiou.
Famously known for playing Mariah Dillard in Marvel's Luke Cage, Woodard's latest role involved her playing Paris on the Apple TV+ Original series See. After starring in Kevin Hart's upcoming Netflix film Fatherhood, she'll return to the Marvel Universe to voice Mimi for Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. Last but certainly not least, Woodard is set to star in Joe and Anthony Russo's The Gray Man, starring Ana de Armas, Chris Evans, Ryan Gosling, Jessica Henwick, Regé-Jean Page, Billy Bob Thornton, and more.
