War for the Planets of the Apes synopsis

When it was announced that Fox would be rebooting THE PLANET OF THE APES franchise, I wasn't overly optimistic; the original movies make up one of my favourite sci-fi franchises of all time and their first attempt at a reboot, Tim Burton's PLANET OF THE APES, didn't exactly fill me with confidence. Thankfully RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES was a wonderful surprise and its sequel, DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, managed to elevate the reboot franchise to new levels which has left fans anxiously anticipating another adventure with Caesar (Andy Serkis). We haven't heard all that much about WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES yet, but 20th Century Fox has released the first synopsis for the film which gives us a look at the challenges the apes will face.

In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins this own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

As for when we might see some footage from WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, Deadline reports that director Matt Reeves and Andy Serkis will be bringing a behind-the-scenes look of the flick to New York Comic-Con on October 6th, so stay tuned for that. WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES hits theaters on July 14, 2017.
