Warner Bros and IMAX plan to bring you almost everything in 3D, including Mad Max and Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity

It looks like Warner Bros is doubling down by releasing 20 of their upcoming movies in 3D and IMAX formats. Now, it remains to be seen if these will be fully 70mm IMAX or the crappy FauxMAX that we get at most local theaters. Banking on the fact that many films on this list are being shot in standard format, I would say they are post-converting to IMAX.

Here is the full list, courtesy of IndieWire:

JACK THE GIANT SLAYER 3D (March 1, 2013)
MAN OF STEEL 3D (June 14, 2013)
PACIFIC RIM 3D (July 12, 2013)
300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE 3D (August 2, 2013)
GRAVITY 3D: (TBD)
SEVENTH SON 3D (October 18, 2013)
THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG 3D(December 13, 2013)
ALL YOU NEED IS KILL 3D (March 7, 2014)
TRANSCENDENCE (TBD)
GODZILLA (5/16/14)
JUPITER ASCENDING 3D (TBD)
THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN 3D (July 18, 2014)
BLACK SKY(TBD)
TARZAN 3D (TBD)
FURY ROAD 3D (TBD)
JOURNEY 3 3D (TBD)

Interesting to note is the undated releases on this list. Could any of those movies actually be filmed using IMAX cameras? The Wachowskis’ JUPITER ASCENDING could be.

I am still not a big fan of 3D, especially post-conversion. But, most of these movies are coming from reputable directors and I trust their vision. If they film the movie in 3D, I will see it that way. If post-converted, I will stick with 2D. And, unless it is GODZILLA, MAN OF STEEL, or THE HOBBIT movies, I don’t have to see these in IMAX. Well, maybe GRAVITY (which according to the article has “VFX were 95% completed, 3D and color grading [are] still work in progress.”).

What do you think? Are any of these must sees in IMAX and/or 3D?
