Warner Bros. assigns new writers to pen Suicide Squad sequel

As DC Entertainment continues to restructure plans for the future of their cinematic universe, it's been announced that the planned sequel to David Ayer's SUICIDE SQUAD is getting two new writers. According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Bar Katz and Todd Stashwick are co-writing the script alongside director Gavin O'Connor. As expected, the film will serve as a follow-up to the 2016 villain-centric comic book action adventure starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto.

Who are these new faces, you ask? Well, Katz has caught the attention of DC brass after writing his Black List script for THE MAN IN THE ROCKAFELLER SUIT. He also has a multitude of projects in the hopper, including CHASING PHIL with Robert Downey Jr.'s Team Downey banner and Warner Bros. Katz is also in charge of re-writing New Line's SPAWN in addition to putting pen to paper for the stage production of THE HISTORY OF INVULNERABILITY, which depicts the creation of DC's own Man of Steel, Superman.

Stashwick is an actor by trade, though he's also worked on Fox's GOTHAM series as well as SYFY's 12 MONKEYS show. Upon accepting the SUICIDE SQUAD job, Stashwick was quick to assure fans that he's a lifelong fan of DC Comics, and has every intention of doing the members of the Suicide Squad justice with his take.

What do y'all think of DC moving forward with a SUICIDE SQUAD sequel? Is this a smart move? Would you like to see some alternative members added to the group? Personally, I'm hoping like hell that they add King Shark. Not only would he provide Warners the opportunity for a cool character design, but I would imagine his interactions with Killer Croc would be hilarious to boot.
