Warner Bros. files for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child trademark

Are plans changing between Warner Bros. and HARRY POTTER author J.K. Rowling about the future of the Wizarding World on the big screen? Are there more HARRY POTTER movies in the offing, beyond the trilogy of FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM? There just might be, based on a new trademark claim the studio has filed for, as it pertains to motion pictures.

Warner Bros. has put in a trademark claim in the UK for HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD, the two-part stage play that is currently in previews at London's West End. The play picks up 19 years after the end of THE DEATHLY HALLOWS and tells a new tale of an older Harry Potter and his son Albus Severus Potter. The play is also set to be published at the end of the month for those who want to read it, but it is not a new J.K. Rowling novel… it is merely the script of the play.

And Warner Bros., to this point, has had no connection whatsoever to the project… unless now they do, and Rowling has granted them permission to secure the rights to THE CURSED CHILD. After all, what would this trademark cover?

“motion picture films featuring comedy, drama, action, adventure and/or animation, and motion picture films for broadcast on television featuring comedy, drama, action, adventure and/or animation; audio video discs, and digital versatile discs featuring music, comedy, drama, action, adventure, and/or animation”

Hmmm… What to think? What to think?

In the past, Rowling has been firm that THE CURSED CHILD is a play and will not be a movie… but you know how sometimes people say things at one moment and then they change their minds? Well… we shall see.

FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM most definitely will be a movie though, and you can expect the first leg of the three-film arc on November 18, 2016.
