Here’s a fascinating little item. If you’ve got an ipad and hit up WiRed Magazine, you’ll be privy to a small viral video directed by none other than Neill Blomkamp, the bloke who made apartheid metaphor movies popular with DISTRICT 9. The video is below, and you’ll just want to check it out for yourself. Like, right now.
Is this setting us up for a future project of Blomkamp’s? Back in ’09, news came that Blomkamp was making a mysterious sci-fi film for Media Rights Capitol, about which he said, “MRC is letting me make the film I want to make, and that is by far the most important thing here. The film will hopefully be commercial, but it is very much a singular film, (one) that comes directly from me.”
When you look at the tiny creature in the video, you’ll take notice of the stamp that says AGM Heartland. The folks at Slashfilm discovered that “AGM Heartland” has been trademarked by a company called Sable Productions. Said trademark is labeled as:
Entertainment services by way of an online website with video, audio and textual content and images featuring characters and storylines about a fictional genetic engineering company that produces genetically engineered and altered organisms.
Is it just an “online website” that this is promoting, or something bigger? Either way, I doubt Blomkamp would spend his time with this bit of business if it wasn’t meant to prepare us for something. What that “something” is, who knows; let’s just enjoy the mystery as it unfolds.
