Waterworld Limited Edition Blu-ray surfaces this December

WATERWORLD was the most expensive film ever made upon its release in 1995. Famous for both its epic scale and the controversy that swirled around its production, WATERWORLD is a key cult film of the 1990s and an essential entry into the subgenre of ecologically-minded blockbusters.

And speaking of the film, which I kinda dig, Arrow Video will release WATERWORLD as a two-disc Blu-ray this December. The killer new cover art (which you can check out below) was designed by Paul Shipper, but no worries, the original poster is featured on the reverse side.

The release has been restored from a 4K scan and features the theatrical cut, the extended US television cut, and the extended European “Ulysses” cut. The set also includes collector’s postcards, a fold-out poster, a 60-page book featuring new writing on the film by David J. Moore and Daniel Griffith, archival articles, and original reviews.

A definitive post-apocalypse blockbuster, WATERWORLD stars Kevin Costner as

The Mariner – a mutant trader, adrift in a dystopian future where Earth is submerged under water and humankind struggles to survive on boats and in ramshackle floating cities. The Mariner becomes embroiled with the Smokers, a gang of pirates who, led by villainous leader Deacon (Dennis Hopper), are seeking Enola (Tina Majorino), a girl with a map to the mythical realm of “Dryland” tattooed on her back.
