If A BEAUTIFUL MIND was the first thing you thought of just now, you’re not alone.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros has purchased THE IMITATION GAME, a spec script written by first-time screenwriter Graham Moore about the life of Alan Turing, an “English mathematician, logician, cryptanalyst, computer scientist, criminally prosecuted homosexual, and tortured soul who committed suicide by eating a cyanide-laced apple.” Supposedly the late Steve Jobs named his company ‘Apple’ as a tip of the hat to Turing.
Leonardo Dicaprio is said to be the guy the studio is most keen on playing the genius, though he’s not officially attached. Meanwhile, Deadline hears that Ron Howard is “interested” in directing the film. No offense to Ron Howard, but no thank you. Let’s get a less safe choice in there.
Moore’s script is actually an adaptation of the Andrew Hodges-penned biography Alan Turing: The Enigma, the rights of which were picked up by first-time producers Nora Grossman and Ido Ostrowsky. The script is supposedly fantastic.
