telefilm adaptation (see article HERE), a new TV series adaptation, a new novel in the works, and the revamp
of an older one- all in one week! Here’s the skinny on what’s going
down with Mr. King:
Earlier this week it was announced that King will write the lead novel
in a new series of Hard Case Crime novels from Winterfall, LLC entitled
THE COLORADO KID, about a couple of veteran newspapermen who
investigate the death of a man on an island near the coast of Maine. Mr. King had
this to say about this venture:
“This is an exciting line of books, and I’m
delighted to be a part of it. Hard Case Crime presents good, clean,
bare-knuckled storytelling, and even though The Colorado Kid is probably
more bleu than outright noir, I think it has some of those old-fashioned
kick-ass story-telling virtues. It ought to; this is where I started
out, and I’m pleased to be back.”
Being a huge fan of King, I’m totally stoked for this book to
come out! THE COLORADO KID is set to be released this October.
airing a series based on the stories from King’s NIGHTMARES &
DREAMSCAPES, a collection of awesomely horrific short stories he wrote a while
back. Developed by Ostar Enterprises, the plan is to air 8 1-hour
episodes, with Mick Garris, Peter Filardi, Larry Cohen, and Richard Christian
Mattheson already signed on in developing the adapted scripts for the
episodes.
Dread Central talked with Garris about the project, and this is what he had to say:“I was one of the guys asked to write and direct an episode of ‘Nightmares & Dreamscapes,’ which TNT is doing. I’ve written the script based on ‘Home Delivery.’ They’re waiting for a production order. I’m not otherwise involved: just a hired hand.”

It was also announced today that Doubleday has plans on publishing a
new edition of ‘SALEM’S LOT, with an additional 50 pages that were cut
from the original, as well as a slew of illustrations to add to this tale
of vampires in a small town. They did the same thing to THE STAND a few
years back, and it made for a better (and longer) read than the
original. No word on when they plan on releasing it, but my guess is sometime
this fall. We soon shall find out, and you soon shall know!
So there you have it folks, we haven’t heard the last from our beloved
author of horror Stephen King. It was feared that THE DARK TOWER was
going to be King’s last efforts in writing, but we all knew there was no
way he was able to stay away! Writing is like crack to King, and he’s
the biggest addict I know (of writing, not crack).
