Weekend Box Office Report: November 30-December 2, 2018

Ralph keeps wrecking in first!

Disney's WRECK-IT RALPH follow-up kept the top spot in its meaty grip as RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET won the weekend with an estimated $25.7 million!

The PG-rated animated sequel dipped by 54% from its Thanksgiving weekend start, and has punched up a 12-day domestic total of $119.2 million (the original WRECK-IT RALPH ended with a domestic total of $189 million).

The second adventure of John C. Reilly's knuckled gamebuster and his princess buddy Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman) has also grabbed a worldwide total of $206 million so far (on a reported cost of $175 million).

Sneaking up a spot to second place was the animated update of THE GRINCH with $17.7 million, bringing the latest version of Dr. Seuss' Christmas criminal to a domestic total of $203.5 million on its fourth weekend in theaters. The PG-rated effort from Illumination (DESPICABLE ME) has stolen $268 million worldwide, on a reported cost of $75 million.

The PG-13 boxing sequel CREED II got knocked down to third place with $16.8 million, a drop of 52% for its second weekend. The $50 million ROCKY spinoff with with Michael B. Jordan, Tessa Thompson and Sylvester Stallone has jabbed to a domestic total of $81.1 million after 12 days in release.

The "Wizarding World" chapter FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD remained in fourth place with $11.2 million, which takes it to a domestic total of $134.3 million. The $200 million Harry Potter spinoff sequel continues to work magic worldwide with a current global total of $519 million.

Holding the mic in fifth place was BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY with $8.1 million for a domestic total of $164.4 million. The story of rock band Queen and singer Freddy Mercury (Rami Malek) is now the biggest music biopic in history, passing the $161 million finish of STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON in 2015. The $52 million drama from director Bryan Singer (and Dexter Fletcher) has also belted out a powerful $539 million worldwide total.

In sixth place again was the Mark Wahlberg / Rose Byrne adoption comedy INSTANT FAMILY with $7.1 million. After three weekends, the PG-13 foster family story (from Wahlberg's DADDY'S HOME 1 & 2 director Sean Anders) has a domestic total of $45.9 million, on a reported cost of $48 million.

Opening in seventh place with $6.5 million was the weekend's only new wide release, the R-rated horror movie THE POSSESSION OF HANNAH GRACE.

The exorcism thriller with "Pretty Little Liars" star Shay Mitchell cost a reported $9.5 million. Critics sent the demon to the morgue with an average of 17% on Rotten Tomatoes (you can squirm over to the JoBlo review HERE).

ROBIN HOOD was in eighth place with $4.7 million, losing 49% from its Thanksgiving weekend opening. The most recent spin on the legend, with KINGSMAN star Taron Egerton as the folklore hero, has a 12-day domestic total of $21.7 million and $48 million worldwide (the medieval action-thriller cost a reported $100 million).

The R-rated heist drama WIDOWS was in ninth place with $4.4 million, giving director Steve McQueen's thriller a domestic total of $33 million and a worldwide total of $53.1 million on its third weekend (it cost a reported $42 million).

Closing out the list was the fact-based Viggo Mortensen / Mahershala Ali period drama GREEN BOOK with $3.9 million. The PG-13 road trip from director Peter Farrelly has a domestic total of $14 million, on a reported cost of $23 million.

Outside the chart, the Bradley Cooper / Lady Gaga remake of A STAR IS BORN finally left the stage after two months in the Top 10, taking a bow with $193 million domestic and $362 million worldwide.

In limited release, the new holiday zombie musical ANNA AND THE APOCALYPSE shambled into theaters with a per-screen average of just $11k, despite strong critical notice (84% on Rotten Tomatoes, with the JoBlo review HERE).

Meanwhile, director Yorgos Lanthimos' Queen Anne drama THE FAVOURITE continued to live up to its title with $1.1 million for the weekend on 34 screens, a per-screen average of $32k (after it set the year's per-screen record last weekend).

Next weekend only offers a whole lot of drama with a set of limited releases that includes the Saoirse Ronan/Margot Robbie period drama MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS, the Natalie Portman music drama VOX LUX, the Julia Roberts addiction drama BEN IS BACK, and the reissue of Steven Spielberg's WWII drama SCHINDLER'S LIST.
