Weekend Box Office Report: The box office is closed :(

The movie theater biz is taking a break…

With the global coronavirus pandemic urging the public to remain inside, and society grinds to a halt in an effort to prevent the spread of infection, cinemas everywhere have pulled the curtains and put the velvet ropes across the entrance for the time being.

Since there's no way to tell how long this downtime will last, obviously there won't be any box office figures or analysis to report until the health of the planet begins to look a little brighter and the gears of Hollywood start cranking again.

In the meantime, to provide some additional entertainment and distractions for audiences in lockdown, studios have already offered several recent theatrical releases to video-on-demand, including Disney/Pixar's fantasy ONWARD, Universal and Blumhouse's thrillers THE INVISIBLE MAN and THE HUNT, and period comedy-drama EMMA.

Arriving soon to a television near you will be the Vin Diesel action movie BLOODSHOT, video game adaptation SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, the Ben Affleck sports drama THE WAY BACK and the R-rated DC Comics adaptation BIRDS OF PREY.

We'll still have some regular movie polls for you here on JoBlo, too.

Try to stay safe and sane! And keep washing those hands!

See you on the other side…
