Wesley Snipes: Passenger 57 (1992) – Reel Action

Welcome back to Reel Action, where we take a look at some of the best action flicks from the VHS era. This week's movie is the one that launched Wesley Snipes as a legit action hero, Passenger 57. At the time, Snipes was red-hot coming off of New Jack City so Warner Bros decided to launch him as a solo action hero in this "Die Hard on a Plane" flick that was a solid box office hit back in 1992, and launched a whole slew of Wesley Snipes movies, including Drop Zone, Murder at 1600, Demolition Man and eventually – Blade.

The movie, which is directed by Kevin Hooks, who went on to make nineties gems Fled and Black Dog, stars Snipes as an airline security specialist named John Cutter. He happens to be on the very same plane psychopath Charles Rane (Bruce Payne) hijacks, with help from a flight attendant played by a young Elizabeth Hurley. It's a total blast that holds up remarkably well, so join us as we take a look back. And remember: always bet on black!

UPDATE: looks like Wesley himself checked it out. So cool!
