You see the guys over at /Film were present at a Q&A with Mr. West at FrightFest, where he screened his film THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL. During the session West talked about how Lionsgate cut his film to pieces:
He explained that the Lionsgate recut of his Cabin Fever 2 is now complete and that he wishes to disown it. According to him, his edit was like a John Waters or Todd Solondz film (yes, really) and featured heart wipes and star wipes (er…) and that the current version is much less esoteric and idiosyncratic.
Ouch. That doesn’t say much for how this one turned out. Then again… was West’s original direction much better? What do you guys think? Time to write this one off or go ahead and give it a chance despite it’s own director’s criticism? The flick, due out before the year’s end, centers around a high school prom that faces a deadly threat: a flesh-eating virus that spreads via a popular brand of bottled water. It stars Rider Strong, Noah Segan, Alexander Isaiah Thomas, Giuseppe Andrews, Alexi Wasser, Regan Deal, Rusty Kelley, Marc Senter, Michael Bowen, Amanda Jelks, Angela Oberer, Lindsey Axelsson, Lila Lucchetti, Andrea Powell and Patrick Durham. This one seems good for some mindless genre fun… maybe that’s exactly what West didn’t want? We’ll soon find out! Be sure to keep it here for any other CABIN FEVER 2 updates as we hear them.
