Westworld season 3 teaser offers new insights

HBO's Westworld debuted three years ago to almost universal acclaim. Audiences and critics were mesmerized by the show's well crafted story, stellar acting performances, and amazing visuals. I counted myself among them. Unfortunately, the second season wasn't as quite well regarded as the first, with multiple complaints about the show's convoluted, dense, and overly complex narrative. HBO is hoping the new season will serve as a course correction however and has released a new teaser trailer.

It's safe to say that the new Westworld trailer is the very definition of "teaser," as it reads more like an advertisement for an advanced tech company than a TV show. In it co-founder Liam Dempsey Sr. of the company Incite promises relief from a complex and messy world because they know you, want to solve all your problems, want to find you a career you're excited about, and are certain you will choose them and only them for all your needs. However, Dempsey seems to be laying it on a little thick here and I'm getting a strong sense that shenanigans are afoot. Or to quote Aldo Raine from INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, "We hear a story too good to be true…it a'int."

Season 3 will take place immediately after the events of the second season with Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) entering neo-Los Angeles with Caleb (EL CAMINO's Aaron Paul) to see how robots are treated. Meanwhile, Maeve (Thandie Newton) finds herself in a WWII themed park set in Nazi Germany. The new season will consist of only eight episodes this time around, down from the standard ten of the last two seasons.

Westworld season 3 debuts in all its android glory sometime in 2020.
