What did you think of Mortal Kombat II?

The tournament begins

The time has finally come. Although Warner Bros. would reboot the film franchise of Mortal Kombat, the 2021 film proved to be a precursor to the tournament. Now, with Mortal Kombat II, the tournament finally begins, and the latest trailer showcases just how much fighting you’re in for. Our Chris Bumbray had a lukewarm blast, although it didn’t quite exceed his expectations, as he gave it a 6/10 in his review, saying, “While Mortal Kombat II isn’t quite the knockout follow-up some of us might have been hoping for, it does improve on the last film, and is night and day compared to the last time we got a Mortal Kombat II in theaters (folks of my generation can remember feeling ripped off when we saw Mortal Kombat: Annihilation). Karl Urban gets a great showcase here, and even if you can’t help but feel the action could have been a bit more memorable, I had a fun time watching it.”

Test Your Might

The weekend has started and Mortal Kombat II is now open to the masses. The early buzz and reactions from advanced viewers were very positive even if they said the movie has its flaws. Most of them seemed to enjoy the film more than Bumbray did, but now that the movie is out, what did YOU think of it? Did you enjoy it? Did it underwhelm you? Do you like it better than the first?

I had the opportunity to see the movie last night and I was pleased with a lot of it! There are definitely a lot of fights and I do love how they structured the tournament. This is probably the closest we’ve come to a fully realized film version of the Mortal Kombat games. This actually feels more like an adaptation of the Mortal Kombat II story. I agree with a lot of Bumbray’s points. It’s a lot of fun, but it didn’t quite exceed my expectations.

Choose Your Fighter

Mortal Kombat II stars returning Mortal Kombat cast members Lewis Tan as MMA fighter Cole Young, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han and Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion, and Max Huang as Kung Lao. New additions include Karl Urban (Dredd) as Johnny Cage, Adeline Rudolph (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) as Princess Kitana; Tati Gabrielle (You) as Jade, the friend and bodyguard of Princess Kitana; Damon Herriman (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) as Netherrealm demon Quan Chi; bodybuilder/actor Martyn Ford (F9: The Fast Saga) as Outworld emperor Shao Kahn; Ana Thu Nguyen (Suka) as Kahn’s wife Queen Sindel; and Desmond Chiam (Joy Ride) as Jerrod, who was the King of Edenia (and married to Sindel) until Edenia’s warriors lost in the Mortal Kombat tournament.

The film has earned an R rating for strong bloody violence and gore, and language.
