Joss Whedon’s CABIN IN THE WOODS has us genre fans salivating in anticipation. Why? Well in regards to CABIN, Whedon has been quoted saying: “… the horror film to end all horror films… literally.” Add to that the fact that this film has been under lock and key and we’ve got something to peek your interest!
Are you ready for this next bit? Well it seems Whedon recently met with none other than Tom Cruise in regards to CABIN. Let that sit for a minute…. WTF?! Yes, Joss Whedon and Tom Cruise talking about the horror movie to end all horror movies. Where the hell does that come from? Well here’s the layout. MGM are developing CABIN IN THE WOODS. MGM own a majority stake in United Artists. Tom Cruise is head of United Artists. So it just makes sense that he’d want to meet with Whedon to talk about CABIN. Alright.
Here’s some of what Whedon (above) had to tell SciFi Wire: “We met with him to hear his suggestions, sort of his take on it. But it was already sort of in the pipeline when they bought it; that was the idea. We’re in preproduction. We start shooting in March, so the train has left the station, and so we’re just sort of, well, we’re filling up the train.” So the meeting was for the sole purpose of Whedon hearing Cruise’s take on the film? And by the ‘train already leaving the station’, does Whedon mean Cruise’s input means nothing? Interesting.
Well there’s some nice updates in there regardless. It seems Whedon and company start production on CABIN this Match, still aiming for the October 23 release date I’m assuming. Drew Goddard will be directing the film. Goddard also helped Whedon pen the script. Whedon and Goddard both teamed on a little TV show called BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, which starred this Sarah Michelle Gellar woman (below). You may have heard of it.
Expect some more CABIN news soon, like some casting updates hopefully! Keep it here for updates as we hear them.
