Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis reunite for Richard Linklater

Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis are comedy legends in their own right, and a combination of the two seems like an instant win.  Jay Roach‘s THE CAMPAIGN had its moments, but it’s far from a classic that either comedian will be remembered for.  Having the two cross cinematic paths again is all fine and dandy, but when you throw director Richard Linklater into the mix (BOYHOOD, BEFORE MIDNIGHT), I sit up and take notice.

Richard Linklater is one of the filmmakers who actually inspired Kevin Smith to make CLERKS, with his indie-film SLACKER.  Linklater then went on to make the seminal 70s flick, DAZED AND CONFUSED, before starting one of the greatest trilogies of all time with BEFORE SUNRISE, and eventually garnering mucho commercial success with Jack Black in SCHOOL OF ROCK.  After BAD NEWS BEARS (2005), Linklater has been playing it pretty low-key.  That may change with his next picture, LARRY’S KIDNEY.

The synopsis is as follows:

Daniel Asa Rose must trek to Beijing, China, to help his black-sheep cousin Larry receive an illegal kidney transplant, collect a mail-order bride, and stop a hit-man from killing their uncle.

Given Linklater’s recent output, I’m very curious to see which side of the line this film will fall on.  He’s capable of delivering commercial ventures, but can also go the “indie route” if need be.  Regardless, his involvement has doubled my interest in a Ferrell/Galifianakis reunion.  In case you need to get your Linklater fix sooner, he does have BOYHOOD coming out on July 11, 2014, which looks incredible.

Richard Linklater‘s LARRY’S KIDNEY, starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis, is set to start shooting in the spring of 2015.
