Yesterday brought the very exciting news that Lionsgate was in negotiations with MGM to distribute the long-anticipated Drew Goddard/Joss Whedon collaboration THE CABIN IN THE WOODS. We also heard, in a seemingly unrelated story, the Lionsgate had chosen to move its Sam Raimi-produced DIBBUK BOX from its OCTOBER 28th release date to JANUARY 6, 2012. Could these events be related!?
According to a Facebook page that has some kind of tenuous connection with the film, there’s rumblings that CABIN will be slotted into the OCTOBER 28th date abandoned by DIBBUK. Makes perfect sense to me, and it’s not a stretch to believe it; Lionsgate has had a horse in the late-October race every year since SAW debuted. If it’s not going to be DIBBUK BOX, what else could it be?
Keep this in your “take with a grain of salt” file for now, but perhaps if we all wish real hard, it’ll actually come true.
